A VERSATILE TOP DRIVE FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE APPLICATIONS
The HCI top drive system is the most versatile top drive in the Tesco product line.
Compact enough to fit into most double and triple masts for land based applications or offshore derricks, the HCI provides the performance and pipe handling features required for medium and deep drilling applications.
Tesco powers the HCI using industry proven prime movers and its own series of hydraulic pump drives and filtration equipment
The HCI top drive is available with an optional integrated swivel or can use the customer's swivel. Casing load ratings of 500 or 650 tons are available.
Performance (torque and speed) can be customized using optional gear ratios and power unit selection.
OPERATIONAL ADVANTAGES :
The complete system including the top drive, torque system and power unit can be installed in less than one day. In most cases, no rig modifications are necessary.
The HCI offers an expanded suite of pipe-handling functions including elevator link-tilt, an extend/retract feature for making mousehole connections (maximum extension 60"), 360° pipehandler rotation, and grabber. The HCI grabber acts as a back-up tong for making or breaking connections and will accommodate tool joints from 3" to 8 3 /4" OD
Tesco's unique quill design allows rapid field removal for inspection or replacement without even draining the gear case.
The HCI is equipped with an independent diesel engine or traction motor. underbalanced wells), these features are even more important.
A double ball mud saver/safety valve is incorporated into the system design.

TOP DRIVE GEAR BOX
Designed to accept two hydraulic motors complete with selected gear reduction. The 500HCI top drive is configured with a standard gear ratio of 2.76:1.An optional 2.32:1 gear ratio is available upon request. The gear ratios are field interchangeable.
The top drive gear box utilizes two performance - enhanced bi-rotational rotary vane hydraulic motors. The motors are able to generate high torque at low or high speeds. The system hydraulic pressure rating is 3,500 psi continuous and 4,000 psi intermittent net hydraulic pressure.
HIGH / LOW RANGE HYDRAULIC MOTOR MANIFOLD
The hydraulic manifold allows the driller two specific ranges with corresponding torque values. The range required can be selected remotely from the driller’s control panel. The motor manifold has two field adjustable pressure relief valves to limit connection and maximum drilling torque.
MAIN DRIVE QUILL
Designed to API 8C specification.The quill is externally splined to accept the main drive hub.
Top connection: 6 5/8” Left Hand Regular Pin.
Bottom connection: 4 ½” IF Right Hand Pin - externally splined.
The Quill diameter: 3.00” ID.
The drive quill may be removed from the gearbox on the rig floor for inspection purposes, without entry into or oil drainage out of the top drive gearbox. The 500HCI top drive may be configured with an optional swivel and fully integrated quill.The integration of the optional swivel and quill may also be performed in the feld.
LOAD NUT AND LOAD COLLAR (Link Hanger)
Designed to API 8C specification with a 650 ton rating.
DOUBLE BALL VALVE MUD SAVER / SAFETY VALVE
Connection: externally splined4 ½” IF Right Hand Box by 4 ½” IF Right Hand Box.
Dimensions: 6 5/8” OD by 2 13/16” ID.
One piece design double ball, double crank valve rated for 10,000 psi working pressure.The upper ball valve (mud saver) can be remotely actuated from the driller’s control panel or operated manually. The lower ball valve (safety valve) is manually operated.
HYDRAULIC REMOTE ACTUATOR
The hydraulic actuator may be stripped from the mud saver valve in a well control situation, with inside drill pipe pressure secured by the lower ball valve.Custom tools to quickly remove the actuator are included in the package.Then the mud saver / safety valve may then be stripped into the well.
Multiple locking positions: at 2.6º increments.
Extend Frame feature: allows mouse hole connections at driller’s eye level and ease of racking bottom hole assemblies.
Elevator Link Tilt cylinders: capable of 35º forward and 55º back, safety chains, and 4 ½” ID link clamps with 3 5/8” ID inserts.
Grabber (Back-up wrench):
Designed to accommodate tool joints from 3 ½” to 9” OD.Rated for 140,000 pound clamping force.The grabber utilizes standard tong dies, and acts as a back-up tong for making or breaking connections at any point in the mast.Additional grabber features include:
1.Remote grabber height adjustment, with memory, in order to handle a variety of tool joint lengths, as well as to facilitate the easy change out of saver subs and dies.
Automatic thread feed compensation for make-up and breakout.
CONNECTION LOCKING CLAMPS
All top drive load path connections are easily accessible and locked with connection locking clamps as a safety feature.
From top to bottom:
1.The main drive quill bottom 4 ½” IF connection to the safety valve is externally splined to accept a splined locking sleeve complete with a 6 5/8” locating stop clamp.
2.A 6 5/8” connection locking clamp is also provided for the 4 ½” IF connection between the safety valve and saver sub.
Note:The externally splined locking mechanism between the safety valve and the main drive quill disassembles easily.This is particularly advantageous in a well control situation, where the safety valve has to be stripped into the well.
GRABBER PIPE GUIDE
The split grabber drill pipe guide has an ID of 6-¾”.
TOP DRIVE HANDLING FRAME
This rugged top drive shipping / transport frame facilitates well site handling of the top drive with pickers, forklifts, or winch lines.This transport frame is also used to rig up and rig down the top drive.

HELI-PORTABLE POWER UNIT SKID
Four modules make up the complete power unit, with the heaviest skid weighing 15,000 lbs:
1.Prime mover skid with detachable roll-end included.
2.Pumps / filter skid.
3.Tank / cooler skid.
4.Hose reel skid.
Once assembled, the entire skid is easily bed loaded.
The six pad, heavy duty pump drive, has a step-up Gear Ratio of 1.18:1, and includes oil circulating pump, cooler, and high temperature shutdown.<
